Prosthetic Liner Patch | GlideWear

Prosthetic Liner Patch

The GlideWear Prosthetic Liner Patch is a patented, dual-layer patch that absorbs friction to protect amputees’ skin where it comes into contact with their prosthetic liner. By preventing friction, the silk-like fabric patch protects against hot spots, blisters, sores and other skin irritation when used daily. Each package contains two patches.

The Prosthetic Liner Patch is for you if you are a below-knee amputee who experiences any of the following where your prosthetic liner comes into contact your skin: redness, rubbing, skin breakdown, friction, pain, sores, or discomfort.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are GlideWear Prosthetic Liner Patches manufactured in the USA?

GlideWear is sourced, sewn, inspected, and packaged in the USA by Tamarack Habilitation Technologies, Inc.

How should I wash my GlideWear Prosthetic Liner Patch?

GlideWear can be machine or hand washed and dried, as desired. GlideWear has been wash and wear-tested under high temperature conditions and frequent wash cycles to ensure long-term durability. We recommend washing in warm water and drying at standard drier temperatures.

How long do GlideWear Prosthetic Liner Patches last?

GlideWear has been wear-tested to 180,000 rub cycles in bench testing and 100 washing & drying cycles with no reduction in effectiveness. Prevent contact with hook & loop straps (Velcro® or similar) to prevent snagging. If fabric or sewn seam tears, replace with new patch.

How thick is GlideWear?

GlideWear Prosthetic Liner Patches are approximately 0.035 in. thick, overall, and 0.045” at the seam (sewn around the perimeter), which is slightly thicker than a credit card.

How do the GlideWear Prosthetic Liner Patches work?

GlideWear is a unique 2-ply low friction fabric designed to transfer the forces of friction and shear away from at-risk tissues, and into the layers of fabric, thus providing targeted relief and long-lasting protection from skin breakdown.

Can GlideWear be sterilized?

Yes, GlideWear can be sterilized in an autoclave, if desired. However, GlideWear is not sterilized in the current packaging format.

Does GlideWear contain latex?

GlideWear contains no latex or other known irritants.

Can GlideWear be used on open wounds?

No, we recommend using an appropriate wound dressing over open wounds to protect against infection. Consult your primary caregiver for wound dressing recommendations. We recommend placing a GlideWear patch on top of the wound dressing to provide relief/comfort and prevent further skin breakdown.

Will the GlideWear Prosthetic Liner Patch migrate during use?

When properly positioned, the user’s prosthetic liner should hold the GlideWear patch firmly in place. The fabric is engineered to slide against itself as motion occurs within and between the bone structure, skin, and prosthetic device; preventing migration during use.

Will the seams cause skin irritation?

No, the sewn seam around the perimeter of the patch has not been shown to cause any irritation amongst users.

Does GlideWear have other uses?

GlideWear is commercially available as a wheelchair cushion cover and, in addition to its prosthetic application, the GlideWear Prosthetic Liner Patch is also being used for osteoarthritis and sports knee braces. We’ve also identified numerous other acute and long-term care applications currently under various stages of development and clinical evaluation.
